Nathan Matthew
Nathan Matthew, a member of the Simpcw Band, has contributed to the advancement of aboriginal education in B.C. Nathan Matthew has recently retired as Chief of his band but has left an amazing legacy. As former chairman of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council, Nathan helped develop the Secwepemc Fisheries Commission and the Secwepemc Cultural Education Society. He also acted as representative for the First Nations Education Council, School District No. 73 for 8 years.
Nathan Matthew is a well-known leader in the field of education. Under his leadership the First Nations of the province of B.C. have signed the first
Aboriginal Education Jurisdiction Agreement between the federal and provincial governments, This agreement paves the way for self-government in education and puts First Nations on equal footing with other educational institutions.
Nathan Matthew is currently working as a private consultant and is still active in promoting the newly formed process of education jurisdiction.
